G2G Crosses Oceans

G2G Crosses Oceans: from Nesher to Florida - and back!

Chanukah is approaching, and in honor of the upcoming holiday, a special and experiential Skype meeting took place between G2G: Generation to Generation participants in the Rabin school in Nesher and G2G participants in their twin "Dor Dorim" school in Broward County, Florida. The special activity took place as part of Partnership2Gether's School Twinning program in the Nesher-Broward County partnership, which has been thriving throughout the last decade in coordination with the Jewish Federation of Broward County.

Skyping with students from Florida
This is the second year were the Rabin School is taking part in the G2G: Generation to Generation Program, lead in the school by principal Heli Hachama and educator Michal Konfino.

Nesher participants
This year, for the first time, the Dor Dorim Hebrew School in Broward County, led by principal Teresa Parker, is participating in the G2G program. The students are interviewing their grandparents and documenting their stories, which will be included in the worldwide story collection at Beit Hatfutsot - The Museum of the Jewish People.

At the end of the meeting, there was a joint candle lighting ceremony, which included Chanuka songs, latkes (in Florida) and donuts - sufganiyot (in Nesher).

The connection between the Dor Dorim Hebrew School and the Rabin School in Nesher is part of the Partneship2Gether, the Jewish Agency's School Twinning program. (The program is led by Levana Caro-Regev, Director of Partnerships Nesher, Karel Glazer, Living Bridge Coordinator and Arkady Hasidovich, Head of School Twinning Development), in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Education. The G2G: Generation to Generation program is run by Beit Hatfutsot – The Museum of the Jewish People and the Israeli Ministries for Education and Senior Citizen, and this initiative is led by Sarit Jacob, G2G Coordinator in Haifa and Yael Rosen, G2G Coordinator at Beit Hatfutsot.

Here's another story of one of the grandmothers in Florida:

One more highlight: during the meeting it turned out that one of the students in Florida will be arriving in Israel next week with her grandmother, to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah. The will be in Haifa and during the meeting the grandmother asked if they could come visit the school in Nesher. Of course she received a positive and excited response from the Rabin School.
